The Brave Nelson was originally built as The Nelson's Head, although it is also sometimes recorded as The Nelson. It was named after the famous Admiral Nelson, who had died in 1805. A popular name for pubs in the 19th century, and certainly this name helped it attract customers from Warley Barracks. Remarkably, its first recorded landlord owned the pub for about 50 years.
The building has clearly been heavily altered over the years. In the 1960s and 70s there were regular gigs for emerging bands at the pub, including groups such as "The Who".
Current landlord, Paul Duley, took over the pub back in 2014 and continues to welcome everyone to create a friendly and fun atmosphere for all, including our outdoor children's play area making it an ideal destination for those with little ones!
🐾 Dog's are also welcome, but please keep them on a lead for the safety of all our guests. 🐾
